We offer an extensive ballet program for dancers of all ages and abilities! Our program follows the internationally recognized Royal Academy of Dance curriculum, which offers dancers the opportunity to participate in a standardised syllabu, as well as access to examinations at a variety of levels.

Our ballet classes also perform as part of our annual ballet production* – past shows have included Peter Pan, Cinderella and Mary Poppins. We look forward to presenting The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe in December 2017!

Class Age Description
Pre-Primary Ballet Ages 5 to 6 years Suitable for dancers who are ready to transition from Pre-Ballet to a class that balances technique and creativity. This Royal Academy of Dance class offers dancers the opportunity to develop motor skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of musical styles and storytelling devices.
Primary Ballet Ages 6 to 7 years Primary Ballet is acts as a stepping stone from creative dance to the Graded syllabus. This Royal Academy of Dance class offers dancers the opportunity to develop motor skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of sounds and musical styles.
Grades 1 & 2 Ballet Ages 7 to 9 years Our graded ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, which provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills. It incorporates classical ballet, free movement and character dance, and offers the dancers an opportunity to be assessed by a RAD examiner in the Winter/Spring session. 

It is mandatory for dancers in Grades 3 to 5 to attend ballet class twice a week.

Dancers in Grades 3 to 5 may also add Character and/or Conditioning for Ballet Dancers to their schedule.

Grades 3 to 5 Ballet Ages 9 to 13, with previous ballet training or placement by an instructor
Open Ballet

Level 1

Ages 10+
No previous experience required
This class will focus on building basic ballet vocabulary to help dancers strengthen their technique, performance and musicality. It is recommended that a dancer spend a full year (3 sessions) in Open Ballet Level 1 before progressing.
Open Ballet

Level 2

Ages 10+
Previous experience required
This class will continue to build and refine basic ballet vocabulary to help dancers strengthen their technique, performance and musicality. Dancers must have completed a full year of Level 1, or have been placed by an instructor.
Grades 6 to 8 Ballet Ages 12+, with experience Our graded ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, which provides a broad practical dance education and develops technical, musical and performance skills. It incorporates classical ballet, free movement and character dance, and offers the dancers an opportunity to be assessed by a RAD examiner in the Winter/Spring session. 

It is mandatory for dancers in Grades 6 to 8 to attend ballet class twice a week, and it is strongly recommended that they add a Character class to their schedule.

Intermediate Foundation

 

Intermediate

Suitable for dancers ages 11 and up who have previously completed Grade 5 ballet or have been assessed by an instructor. The first two levels in the Royal Academy of Dance’s Vocational Graded Syllabus, which provides an in-depth study of ballet, while developing technique, music and performance skills at a pre-professional level. It is mandatory for dancers at this level to attend class twice a week, and they may have the opportunity to be assessed by an RAD examiner in the spring/winter session.
Advanced Foundation

Advanced 1

Advanced 2

Suitable for dancers ages 13 and up who have previously completed Intermediate ballet or have been assessed by an instructor The upper levels in the Royal Academy of Dance’s Vocational Graded Syllabus, which provides an in-depth study of ballet, while developing technique, music and performance skills at a pre-professional level. It is mandatory for dancers at this level to attend class twice a week, and three classes a week is strongly recommended. Dancers may have the opportunity to be assessed by an RAD examiner in the spring/winter session.
Inter/Advanced Ballet Technique Ages 13+ with experience Suitable for dancers who are already enrolled in Intermediate ballet or higher. An additional non-syllabus class that allows dancers to focus on building technique at an advanced level.

Grade 3/4 Character Ages 9 to 12

Or enrolled in Grade 3 or 4 Ballet

Character work is the theatrical presentation of national dance using traditional dance steps and music, which is found in famous ballets such as The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.

Dancers in will focus on developing rhythm, musicality, patterning, and performance in the Hungarian, Ukrainian and Italian styles.

Grade 5+ Character Ages 12+

Or enrolled in Grade 5 to 8 Ballet/Vocational levels

Character work is the theatrical presentation of national dance using traditional dance steps and music, which is found in famous ballets such as The Nutcracker and Swan Lake.

Dancers will focus on developing rhythm, musicality, patterning, and performance in the Russian, Polish Court and Spanish Styles.

Conditioning for Ballet Dancers Ages 10 +

Ages 12+

Advanced (Permission Only)

Designed to help dancers in Grade 3 Ballet and above gain strength and flexibility through exercises that complement their ballet technique and training.
Beginner Pointe By Permission Only Suitable for dancers who are enrolled in Grade 5 ballet or above, with at least 3 years of ballet technique. Dancers must have passed a pre-pointe assessment conducted by one of our ballet instructors in order to be approved for this class.
Elementary,

Intermediate, Advanced Foundation & Advanced 1 Pointe

By Permission Only Suitable for dancers with one or more years of experience on pointe. Dancers will be placed into the appropriate level by a ballet instructor.
Pointe & Classical Variations Ages 12+

(at least 1 year of experience on pointe is recommeded)

This class is performance based and will focus learning repertoire from Classical ballets such as Sleeping BeautyRaymonda and Don Quixote, as well as more 21st Century styles. The warm-up will include furthering strengthing and technique on pointe to ensure that this material is performed proficiently.

 

New for 2017 – Intensive Training Program

We feel that it it is important to recognize when our dancer choose to focus their efforts on achieving a high calibre of ballet training. As a result, students who meet the appropriate criteria for their relative ballet level will be considered a member of our Intensive Training Program.

Grades 3 to 5 Ballet

(A minimum of 4 hours a week in ballet-focused classes)

Grades 6 to 8 Ballet
